Negativity...Competitiveness...move on...

Sometimes I wonder how I can be so negative.  Like last night, we lose 2 games (well, we lost all 3) as some guy dumps a ball onto the lane gets lucky and carries the brooklyn (we're talking bowling here, try to keep up).  Why do I care?  It's a drunk league and there are very few real bowlers in this league.  It should be about having fun and hanging with my friends.  But I'm so darn competitive and I hate to lose...I wish there was a switch for that sometimes.  Being competitive is a good thing, but being competitive and out to win at all costs is not so good.  It has to be channeled in the right way.  I have to be able to let it go and be a good sport when I lose...how annoying I find it to be gracious when someone gets lucky...

But, in some games, that's part of the game.  In bowling it is.  It happens, move on.  In Poker, it happens, move on.  Hell, in poker one should be happy that the guy got lucky, at least if you play against that person periodically.  Getting lucky will make that person feel that they made the right play and you will profit over time against that play.  The percentages will play out over time.  My mental game is off right now.  How do you get that back?  Why not pat the guy on the back that got the brooklyn strike to win?  Why not say "nice hand" (without sarcasm) to the person that just rivered a flush or straight or whatever on you and move on knowing that you made the right play or did all you could do?  I'm going to get my mental game back, I am.

Side note: IU loses at Michigan State...sigh...Jordan Hulls can't guard anybody...move on. Ohio State is next. Let's hope Sheehey is healthy but either way, we can play them tough in Bloomington.

Intro to Bum

Hey All

This is my first blog so it might not be that great but it will allow me to write and get some things off my chest.  I live in NW Indiana, the "region" if you will.  I grew up in West Central Indiana, the "corn fields" if you will...So, I have been displaced to a much faster paced place than I would prefer, but I have lived here for 20+ years and evidently I'm supposed to be used to it by now.  I'm not.  I work in Chicago, which is even faster paced, and have done so for the last 13-ish years.  By trade, I am an Accountant, graduated from The Ball State University and have passed the CPA exam.  I am white, married, and have one kid; he's 15 and a Sophmore in HS; he's a runner and is very smart; I am a very proud father.

Interests?  I have a few, well, my wife thinks too many.  I enjoy playing Poker (have my own league); I still play softball.  I currently just got my license to be a HS Basketball Referee.  I also enjoy IU Basketball, fishing, bowling, golf, playing NBA 2K12 with my son, Reds Baseball, Colts Football (yeah, in bears country...), some fantasy sports...I don't know if that is all, but it is enough for now.

I may offend you with some of things I may choose to write about; I'm not sorry about that.  I will not be politically correct on purpose as I don't see the point in it.  I will call a spade a spade and by spade I am not referring to a black person.  I love God, I love my country, and I love my family and friends; and much to God's chagrin, it is rarely in that order.

Enough about me.  Last night I attended the Valparaiso vs Chesterton Boys basketball game.  Matt Holba is a  6'6" Freshman on Chesterton that is supposedly being recruited by IU.  Valpo came into the game at 6-1 having gotten murdered by Lake Central, while Chesterton limped into the game at 3-5 having gotten murdered by Lake Central...Anyway, despite Valpo's record, one would have thought it would have been a pretty good game.  It wasn't.  Valpo led 12-2 at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back, winning 51-39...Holba...dribbled way too much which resulted in countless first half TO's; overall, showed he knows how to position himself on defense and rebounding; tips the ball too much currently when rebounding on the offensive end and has a bad habit of bringing the ball down to his waist in traffic instead of keeping it high.  But, he showed some skills that may one day translate into scholarship offer from a school of IU's magnitude, but I don't see that offer coming in the near future.  I will mark him down as someone to watch going forward though.  There's plenty of talent there.

If I don't write again before the New Year, have a happy and safe New Year.
